In the midst of the severe environmental crisis that the planet is suffering, tourism is presented as one of the alternatives to build a sustainable economy and a more harmonious world for all living beings. However, many tourist practices also have serious environmental impacts. The following are practical recommendations to reduce the impact of our trips:

1. Research the atmosphere, traditions and culture of the places you visit. In the case of the Province of Santa Elena, one way to get immersed is by visiting MYTHICAL SUMPA

2. Choose operators and hotels that practice equity: between men and women; communities and private owners; employees and employers; and human beings and the natural environment.

3. Travel lightly.

4. Travel slowly. Walk a lot, cycle, row. Avoid using cars and motor boats.

5. Respect traditions, cultures, beliefs, even if you don't share them. Find out which practices are sacred or intimate and what is expected of tourists regarding them.

6. Consider the practices at the place you are staying: Waste and wastewater management; water and energy conservation; type of architecture and impact on the landscape; and whether there has been displacement of former inhabitants of the area.

7. Remember that long showers, excessive washing of towels and sheets or large swimming pools consume a lot of fresh water, which may be scarce in the region.

8. Try to consume local and seasonal foods. This supports the local economy and saves energy on transportation and food preservation.

9. Find out about the closed seasons and which species are threatened before going out to enjoy the local cuisine. We suggest reading Let us support and respect the bans for the conservation of marine species

10. Remember that buying wild animals or archaeological species is punishable by law.

11. When diving or snorkeling, do not collect shells or damage coral reefs, as they take a long time to grow. Do not buy these items.

12. Never start a fire without taking the necessary precautions. Surround your campfire with rocks or dig a little into the ground, do not light it in very windy areas and make sure to extinguish it completely before leaving.

13. Talk to your loved ones about your trip and recommend the most responsible places.

14. Share this link. It is definitely one of the ways that together we can make a change.
