The Sacachún Commune, with the support of the National Institute of Cultural Heritage, invites all citizens of the province of Santa Elena to join in the collection of signatures to request the return of San Biritute to the commune of Sacachún. To do so, they can visit the Citizen Service Center located on the road to Salinas Ciudadela Santa Paula, in front of the Frank Vargas Pazzos School, from Monday, January 23 to Thursday, January 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Return of Saint Biritute is a request from the inhabitants of the commune who have been demanding its return for more than 30 years. Saint Biritute is a Monolith, an emblematic example of the ancestral culture still alive among the inhabitants of Sacachún, who associate the lack of water with the kidnapping of the Saint by the clerical intervention in 1952, to “extirpate idolatries within their diocese.”
The Comuneros, together with Arq. Esteban Delgado De la Cuadra, Regional Director of the INPC, and the authorities of the province of Santa Elena will present at a press conference the formal request letter, the signatures of support and the plan for the return of San Biritute to the Commune of Sacachún, on Thursday, January 27 in Santa Elena at the Citizen Service Center starting at 11:00 a.m.
