The Pacoche rainforest, one of the last wildlife refuges on the Ecuadorian coast, is under threat, according to environmental groups, as it is one of the areas of intervention of the planned Pacific Refinery. Work, well-being, development, and care for the environment are, as in ALL other large industrial projects, the offers proposed to the inhabitants of the area. Nicole Rivera (a poet from Manabi), a frequent visitor to the forest, during a visit made a few days ago, found that the greenery and the noise of the animals were beginning to be devastated by machinery, leaving a landscape of desolation. From her position, Nicole issues a warning.

TO MY FOREST PACOCHE

I can't sleep thinking that you'll die,
I am distressed day by day knowing that you will not return,
The leaves fall, the earth dries up,
The fauna is stressed because it will be exposed

I make you known so that they may admire your beauty,
Before the machines tear off your foliage
I know you will die in 5 or 10 years,
And I can't imagine them taking you away from me

You are the lungs of this mother earth,
But we are going one step closer to the extinction of this planet.
I can't breathe anymore, your pure and fresh air
Because only toxic and imperfect gases will come from you

You are a tropical rainforest,
The only one we had in our city.
It's a shame to know that you're leaving me,
And maybe I'm a coward for not fighting a little harder

Nothing can be said, he has the power.
But only the one above will judge for him
I'm sure you don't know what you're doing.
It is a great damage that will cost him immensely.

Just in these times of pollution
You come as if nothing happened and choose the best
That is a sacred land for many.
Because it is very rare that it happens in this world

You put the refinery finishing off Pacoche,
Leaving all the damage to our successors.
They are not to blame for the wrong decision,
There will only be acid rains that destroy life and nature.

I only ask for one thing, I only ask God
Let this be a nightmare, get up
To open our eyes and see that none of this is happening
Passed…….
