The Ecogastronomic Association Slow Food has launched a new campaign called 'Happy Degrowth', and within this space there is a section that seeks proposals to reduce waste, reuse and recycle, thus avoiding dangerous chemical substances and their interaction with the food we eat.

The first idea is not only functional, but also simple, effective and very economical to put into practice: a recipe to make your own eco-friendly dishwasher.
Detergents commonly sold in supermarkets and other establishments often contain chemicals that can end up in our food, and which also have harmful effects on the environment because they end up in the wastewater generated in our homes. For example, many dishwashers contain cobalt, a highly dangerous substance in both senses: in our body and in nature.
The recipe proposed by Slow Food, however, uses only products that are completely biodegradable and easy to obtain, and are very common in any kitchen. These are the necessary ingredients:
  • 3 lemons
  • 200 gr. of fine salt
  • 150 ml white vinegar
  • ½ l of water
Procedure:
Cut the three lemons and blend them (with the peel and seeds) until you obtain a thick liquid. Add 200 grams of fine salt, 150 ml of white vinegar and half a litre of water. Continue blending and mixing well.
Then we boil this mixture in a sufficiently large saucepan for 15 minutes.
Store the mixture in a glass container or bottle. When using it, half a cup will be enough for a sink full of water. It is always advisable to use gloves.
This detergent does not produce foam like those available in any store, but it has excellent detergent properties thanks to the combination of various natural agents. Ecological dishwashers within everyone's reach in a few simple steps.
