INGAMA CHIGA MA´KAE KUEÑACHU KUNDASEPA

Before CHIGA (God) walked in this world with his mother, there was no one, so he told his mother to make lots of chicha. By God's command she began to make chicha, he also began to build a large ranch, very large. He built some long seats, some tables and a platform and fenced the perimeter of the house, then the mother said to her son: "Why are you making such a big ranch?" "Because I don't want to make chicha anymore," so he told her: "Today I'm going to call and drink chicha with my people." The platform was ready, everything was prepared to call the people, then he said to his mother: "The time has come to call them." He climbed onto the platform with a coconut that made a sound and called them, but they didn't come. Then Chiga called them with a shout: "Come all to drink chicha that I have prepared for you!" 


After the call, people appeared out of nowhere with feather necklaces, tiger fangs, macaw feather crowns, their faces painted, their bodies covered with a variety of fragrant plants from nature, and each one brought drums, flutes, and windchimes to celebrate. They entered the house and filled all the seats prepared by Chiga, and the mother offered them the chicha that they had prepared. Those who did not get a seat stayed outside: they are the spiritual beings of nature who now live in the mountains.


We are the ones that Chiga called and we are the COFAN (A´I) with a natural wisdom. Chiga had called us to exist in this world and to take care of what exists in it. After calling us, he left us the yage.

That is why we COFAN are brothers of everything that Chiga created and we always maintain balance with nature and our mother earth and we will take care of her until the last COFAN exists.

We are from the COFAN people. We are aboriginals from Putumayo. We are from the Yage culture.
We are a people of native wisdom. Our grandparents still preserve the wisdom of our ancestors. They are given knowledge of the world of medicinal plants, to cure the illnesses of the body and the spirit. They are traditional doctors for us and the world. They advise us and the world with their elder thoughts.

We are humble and peaceful people, good, generous, respectful. We respect Mother Nature. God has left us Yagé, a hair from his crown so that we can learn to live and so that our curacas, who are our highest spiritual leaders, can guide us. For this reason our people are in mourning. We have lost one of our grandparents, who with his wisdom had taught us to live in peace with our nature and with ourselves. He has taken with him his stories, his tales, and everything he has experienced since our territory was in fullness. He was able to see how it was taken from us. Thanks to him, our descendants have continued, to whom we owe our lives.
