It is always important to emphasize the ideas that must remain in the community's consciousness regarding the measures to be taken in the face of these types of events. A community that is prepared will have a better chance of surviving these natural events.


What to do before the earthquake? 


1. Evaluate the structures of your home or workplace, identify hazards, take corrective action and mark safe areas.
2. Identify escape routes and safety zones. Arrange furniture and equipment to clear escape routes. Secure light fixtures and shelves.
3. Practice a Contingency Plan with your family, coworkers and community and carry out drills to correct and improve actions in the event of an earthquake.


What to do during an earthquake?


1. Stay calm. Stay calm and try to help if you can.
2. If you cannot evacuate the area, locate yourself in the safety zones.
3. Stay away from windows, ledges, hot utensils, and objects that could roll or fall. DO NOT use elevators, as you could become trapped. If you are caught in a building by the earthquake, leave immediately; do not allow anyone else to enter.
4. If you are outside, seek shelter away from buildings, trees, wires, and moving vehicles. Find shelter in parks, yards, parking lots, gardens, etc.
5. If you are in your vehicle, park it away from buildings and bridges and abandon it.


What to do after the earthquake?


1. Inspect the property to determine whether it is habitable or not and assess the damage
2. If you are prepared, help by providing first aid and care. Help injured people, children, the elderly and disabled.
3. Do not try to move seriously injured or fractured people.
4. Follow the recommendations of the authorities and the Civil Defense Committee.
5. Meet with your children and family at the previously established meeting place,

Internal safety zones: Union of columns, under door thresholds and sturdy furniture.
External security zones: Patios, gardens, courts, parking lots.
