DURING THE EARTHQUAKE:
- Control your fear, stay calm and remember what you need to do.
- Stay in safe areas of the place where you are. Stay where you are.
- Stay away from windows, mirrors and glass items that can break.
- Stay away from stoves, braziers, coffee makers, radiators or any hot utensils.
- If you are in a building, stay where you are; do not try to use elevators or stairs during the earthquake.
- If you are in your vehicle, drive as calmly as possible to a place that is away from bridges or overpasses and park.
- In public and crowded places (cinema, theatre, stadium, classroom) do not shout, run, push, leave calmly if the exit is not crowded; otherwise, stay in your own seat, placing your arms over your head and lowering your head towards your knees.
- Go to the established safety zones.
AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE:
- If you are trapped, stay calm and try to communicate with the outside world by making noise with an object.
- Do not use elevators and be careful with stairs; they may have been damaged by the earthquakes.
- Carefully inspect the damage; if it is serious, do not use the property.
- Do not light matches, candles or lighters until you are sure that there are no gas leaks or problems with the electrical system.
- Do not consume food and drinks that have been in contact with broken glass, debris, dust or any contaminant.
- Turn on the radio to stay informed.
- Follow the instructions of the rescue brigades or authorities.
- Remember that when a major earthquake occurs there are almost always aftershocks.
