Prohibitions are periods of time during which hunting or fishing is prohibited; their importance lies in the fact that they are generally applied to species that would otherwise be overexploited for commercial purposes to the point of extinction.


LET'S NOT PROMOTE ILLEGAL CAPTURE BY PURCHASING THESE SPECIES DURING CLOSED TIMES


There are two types of bans: indefinite and temporary. Below we give the cases in Ecuador for each one:


  •  INDEFINITE CLOSURES

Spondylus: Capture is permanently prohibited

Shrimp larva:   prohibition of the use of larval nets for their capture.
Sea cucumber: Prohibition of capture, extraction, transportation, processing and sale (national and international).
Sea turtle: Prohibition of capture, processing and sale.
Whales: Any activity against these is prohibited.


  • TEMPORARY CLOSURES


Black shell: During breeding season and then prohibition of capture of fish less than 4.5 cm. From February 15 to March 31 of each year.

Crab: Prohibited during breeding and moulting. From 15 January to 15 February and from 15 August to 15 September of each year.

Lobster: Total ban on extraction, possession and marketing. From January 16 to June 16 of each year.

Sardines, carita, grouper, leaffish and other small pelagics: Total ban on extraction, possession and marketing. Throughout September.

Golden:  Total ban on extraction, possession and marketing. From 1 July to 7 October of each year. Permanent ban on specimens under 80 cm.

Marine shrimp: Total ban on extraction, possession and marketing. From 1 January to the last day of February of each year.

Shrimp ointment: Total ban on extraction, possession and marketing. From February 1 to March 31 of each year.

Ata: Partial catch bans: From July 29 to September 28 and from November 18 to January 18 of each year.

Do not break the conservation bans. REMEMBER that offenders, accomplices and concealers may be placed at the disposal of the Prosecutors and will be punished in accordance with the Ecuadorian Penal Code.
