Adapted from a Chilean Government manual, we share these actions and specific measures for each public or private entity to incorporate into their savings plans.
- Turn off the lights on facades and ornamentation, as long as it does not compromise safety.
- Adjust work schedules to make better use of natural light and thus reduce electricity consumption.
- Turn off the lights in corridors and common areas that are not essential, ensuring proper traffic.
- Review each workstation and assess the number of lights that can be reduced without affecting work performance.
- Turn off lights in offices, hallways and floors and check that individual air conditioning units are turned off outside of working hours.
- Reduce the number of elevators during off-peak hours.
- Unplug appliances that use transformers or “stand by” technology (e.g. cell phones, televisions, radios, microwaves, etc.).
- Reprogram the air conditioning systems (manual or automatic), setting the temperature to no less than 24° C.
- Reconfigure computers for minimum power consumption.
- Check the maintenance of lighting and cooling systems.
- Seal and weather-strip doors and windows that leak air.
- Instruct the mandatory use of thermoses for coffee and tea service. The sequence must be from the teapot to the thermos and from the thermos to the cups.
- Schedule garden watering to a minimum and only at night.
