One Friday in February 1966 in a sector of José Luis Tamayo, better known by its inhabitants as "Muey", there was a dance hall called PALITO, in allusion to the physical appearance of its owner Mr. Pedro Reyes Lainez.
Families from Guayaquil and local families came to this place, because the fame that this place had gained was due to the joy, romance, music and fun that allowed it to become a very popular meeting point for locals and foreigners.
One of the Guayaquil families that frequently visited this place was the Peña family, as well as the Tigrero family and the De la Cruz family, daughters of the famous Champán.
It was rumored that the prosperity of Palito's business was due to a certain pact made with the devil, Palito, the owner, always greeted his clients with his charismatic and broad smile. As they danced, as the hours passed, it was already close to midnight and the atmosphere became heavy. Ana danced with her gaze fixed on her dance partner, not realizing that they were the center of attention in the room.
And everyone looked on in amazement… suddenly she said, “Dad, Mom, help me,” and fell to the ground. People screamed and prayed, knelt down, and others simply ran desperately without direction.
Amidst the crowd of people, a beautiful horse appears on which the mysterious man climbs and disappears, revealing the tail that peeks out from his trousers. From that time on, this character was baptized as Bartolo, since the revelation of his figure occurred to the sound of this music, and from that day on, people no longer frequented the great salo palito for fear of meeting Bartolo again.
