RULES WITHIN THE YAGE RITUAL

The celebration of ceremonies requires us to comply with certain rules that are given by nature itself, which we call divine laws. The taita is the one who ensures compliance with these rules, so that we do not have any difficulty or imbalance that affects our life. That is why prior preparation of our body is important.

To prepare the drink you must look for good Yagé, good “charupanga” so that the effect is good and illuminates our vision.

– Women who are menstruating cannot attend the ceremony.

– Pregnant women should not walk behind the backs of older people or people who are taking Yagé.

– when the taita is singing or concentrating, there must be silence.

– You should not have conversations or jokes about heavy topics that disturb others.

– women should be in one space and men in another.

– unusual people or patients must be in the place indicated to them.

Guidance or advice should be given at the right time.

When you are going to have some conversation or jokes, you can do it when the effect of the Yagé has passed.

Men who have a pregnant woman should drink from a different glass than the one everyone else drinks from and should not get close to where the Yagé pot is.

When the wives of yageceros or other people are pregnant, it is permitted to take yagé until she is approximately six (6) months pregnant.

After giving birth, both men and women must not attend ceremonies until two months have passed.

After two months, you must take baths with herbs and emetics as ordered by the elders in order to be able to continue taking yagé again.
