Camille Gamarra is another artist that we frequently see involved in social actions or environmental awareness. Several of her works have been donated to causes of struggle and are destined for community centers on the Coast and in the Amazon. Now she explains to us in her own words, what is the greatest interest that moves her in several of her artistic participations.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
As a task, I have to explain my interests, which I find a little difficult to put into words. I discovered art when I was very young and it has been a tremendous help to me in being able to overcome, endure and deal with situations that have occurred throughout my short life. More than anything, it has been a form of expression where I do not have to say a single word, since it is difficult for me to share or simply say my conflicts because when I say them verbally, for me they become a reality, while in my head I can simply put a disguise on them. This is why I decided to share this valuable communication tool with other people, especially people whose daily life is a conflict.<\/span><\/div>\n

I started painting in the streets with the children who were asking for money. When I saw their final works, I began to realize everything they expressed through painting. Then I created an art therapy project that covers various areas such as creative stimulation, motor skills, ecological awareness by working with recycled materials, which is also within their reach and they can profit economically from it, among others. I work together with the psychology department to analyze and see what they say through their work each month so that the psychologist can reinforce those areas.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Together with the ADES Foundation we carried out the project in the Bastion Popular sector, working with children who have been physically and psychologically abused. We presented this project at my university to raise funds. We made a video where the children talked about their classes and Eduardo said something that would mark me forever. In the video he said that without art we would not exist and then I asked him why he said that and he answered \u201cBecause at home I do not exist for anyone, here I exist.\u201d <\/span><\/div>\n

On weekends I go with Mies to work with the children of Isla Trinitaria, Cristo de Consuelo, among other areas. Receiving that joy upon arrival is priceless. Giving them the opportunity to be children again is also priceless. Knowing that what you share with them marks you as much as it does them, knowing that at some point they will have to make a decision between opting for something good or something bad and knowing that you would influence that distant decision, is gratifying. <\/span><\/div>\n

If you ask me about my interests, they are neither economic, nor material, nor fame nor names. It is simply about making others happy at the same time that they make me happy. The greatest power is the power to help. <\/span><\/div>\n
