The story of Posorja refers to a famous Wankavilka fortune teller. The story was very popular during the colonial era and at the beginning of Ecuador's republican life and tells that the fortune teller appeared out of nowhere near the Ecuadorian coast, where the population of the Santa Elena peninsula now lives.

According to the story, Posorja arrived in a small wooden boat, lighter than a raft when she was still a child. She had white features and arrived wrapped in a thin cotton blanket with intricate hieroglyphics; on her chest she wore a small, finely carved snail pendant.

She was adopted by the Wankavilka people, where she spent her childhood and grew up. It was there that she began to predict very tragic events for those who had adopted her, becoming increasingly famous as a great seer throughout the region.

As a result of her growing fame, it is said that Huayna Capac himself came to her town, and later also Atahualpa, to whom she predicted the dire consequences for his governments. Huayna Capac sees in her the messenger of Pachacamac and asks her to predict his future, seeing his own death in Tomebamba before the seer.

<\/div>\nAtahualpa also asked her to reveal his future, and she predicted that he would be in power for a short time when some white-bearded man would come and kill him after he was taken prisoner and held captive.<\/div>\n

When Posorgia finished this revelation, she announced that her earthly mission was complete, as it was her last. With that, she set out to sea, blew her conch shell, and was carried away by a wave.<\/div>\n
