The objective of disseminating them is \u201cConnecting people to conservation: Ideas to contribute to bird conservation\u201d.<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"color: red;\">1.<\/span> Prevent birds from colliding with your windows. This is a common cause of death for birds. They see the vegetation outside reflected in the glass or try to reach indoor plants and crash.&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">This can be solved by putting curtains or stickers (preferably with a photo of a bird of prey) on the windows to make them visible to the birds.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"color: red;\">2.<\/span> Protect birds from pets. Stray dogs and cats are a threat to birds: they disturb, chase and often kill them. Do not let them roam freely.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"color: red;\">3.<\/span> Do not buy illegally captured wild birds. The sale of wild birds is illegal and many of the species sold are in danger of extinction.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"color: red;\">4.<\/span> Use cloth bags and reusable bottles. Birds that accidentally eat plastic can get sick and even die. Taking these measures will reduce plastic pollution and save resources.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"color: red;\">5.<\/span> Recycle. Recycling reduces waste and saves resources. Be creative. Make bird baths and water bowls out of plastic bottles and dishes.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"color: red;\">6.<\/span> Restore natural habitats in your community. Birds need space to live and many of their habitats are disappearing. Urban parks and open spaces are natural spaces for birds. Work with your community to create the habitat that once existed in your community.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"color: red;\">7.<\/span> Keep your distance. Birds need space to feed, nest and carry out other daily activities. If you get too close, they may become nervous and use up energy reserves.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"color: red;\">8.<\/span> Leave the chicks where you find them. Chicks may spend several days on the ground after they leave the nest and before they fly. You can help them by keeping people and pets away so their parents can care for them. If you think they are truly orphaned, consult an expert.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"color: red;\">9.<\/span> Buy organic products. You can help preserve habitats by buying organic coffee and chocolate, for example. Shade-grown coffee farms, which resemble native forests, are home to more bird species than sun-grown coffee farms.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"color: red;\">10.<\/span> Plant native plants. Native plants provide food, nesting sites, and cover for birds.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"color: red;\">11.<\/span> Reduces noise emissions.
