Se trata de una de las sustancias s\u00f3lidas m\u00e1s ligeras del mundo, pero tan resistente y fuerte que si se emplearan menos de 500 gramos para construir un barco, este podr\u00eda soportar 453 kilos (+\/- el peso de 5 refrigeradoras) sin hundirse.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: medium;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: medium;\">El material es inspirado en los secretos que permiten a algunos insectos caminar sobre el agua y, por si fuera poco,&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: medium;\">es capaz de absorber grandes cantidades de aceite, abriendo el camino para su posible uso en la limpieza de derrames de petr\u00f3leo. El nuevo material podr\u00eda flotar sobre la superficie, absorbiendo el aceite sin hundirse. Seg\u00fan Olli Ikkala, de la Universidad de Tecnolog\u00eda de Helsinki (Finlandia), el nuevo material flotante, dise\u00f1ado para imitar las patas largas y delgadas del insecto tejedor que camina sobre el agua, est\u00e1 hecho de un aerogel, compuesto por nanofibras de la celulosa en las plantas. Los aerogeles son tan ligeros que a algunos de ellos se les llama incluso \u00abhumo s\u00f3lido\u00bb. Tambi\u00e9n tienen notables propiedades mec\u00e1nicas y son flexibles.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: medium;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: medium;\">\u00abEstos materiales tienen propiedades realmente espectaculares y podr\u00edan ser utilizados de manera pr\u00e1ctica\u00bb, dice Ikkala. Las aplicaciones potenciales van desde la limpieza de los derrames de petr\u00f3leo hasta la creaci\u00f3n de productos tales como sensores para la detecci\u00f3n de la contaminaci\u00f3n ambiental, robots miniaturizados militares e incluso juguetes infantiles y flotadores pr\u00e1cticamente insumergibles.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: medium;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: medium;\">El nuevo material contiene celulosa, la cual da a la madera su fuerza notable y es el principal componente de los tallos, hojas y ra\u00edces de las plantas. Tradicionalmente, los principales usos comerciales de celulosa han sido en la producci\u00f3n de papel y textiles (algod\u00f3n).
