Lexmark, an international company dedicated to producing printers, scanners and multifunction equipment and with a wide presence in our country, has just signed an agreement with the Ministry of the Environment of Ecuador according to which it undertakes to plant a tree for each recycled cartridge produced.

In this way, the company hopes to compensate the environment and reduce the polluting impact they may generate.

"The program was developed with organizations that purchase Lexmark solutions. Every four to six months, cartridges will be collected to plant trees," according to the El Universo website.

However, all users who wish to do so may also join the plan. To do so, they must contact the office located in Quito and the only requirement is that the cartridges to be recycled must be of the Lexmark brand.

All the collected cartridges will be sent to a plant where they will be processed and some of the cartridge parts will be reused, others will be sent to various industries and finally other parts will be used to generate energy in certain countries.

The trees will be planted in areas to be determined by the Ministry of the Environment, and the work will be carried out by the company.

Although the effectiveness of the plan can only be measured after some time, measures such as this are encouraging and are an example of ingenuity that other companies could follow.
