With a civic-military parade and the presentation of the film, "Ancón 100 years of history and heritage", the official activities of celebration for the Declaration of the Urban, Architectural and Industrial Settlement of Ancón as Cultural Heritage of the Nation began.
These official activities will continue today with the presentation of the Heritage Declaration (which will be attended by the highest national authorities) from 5 p.m. and a Tribute Concert with the participation of the Guayaquil Philharmonic Orchestra and Christian Jaramillo (son of Julio Jaramillo, the Nightingale of America) Through the interpretation of a repertoire of popular music, this last activity will start at 6 p.m.
Ancón has assets of industrial, architectural, historical and intangible built heritage. Examples that can be mentioned are the buildings of several Clubs, such as the Ancon Club; the housing complexes of the Barrios Inglés and Obrero; as well as being the birthplace of the best Ecuadorian player of all time, Alberto Spéncer Herrera. Additionally, it is worth mentioning that Ancón is the first oil city in Ecuador, since in 1911 the first oil well in the country was drilled there. All this added to the exchange of cultures that was experienced during those years due to the influences coming from outside, especially from countries such as England, Canada, Poland, Jamaica, among others, that responded to the call for labor from the recent industry.
The inhabitants of Ancón participated in workshops that sought to recover memory, with the analysis of the different ways of relating in social life, the past, history and local heritage, a process that has served to build a critical context of cultural assessment.
The entire process of obtaining the Declaration has united the population with its authorities in a "dream" that dates back to 2002.
One of the legacies that will remain for the immediate future is undoubtedly the Ancón tourist project that the Tourism Commission of the Autonomous Parish Government of Ancón developed and that aims to be an alternative for visitors to learn about the history of Ancón, its industrial infrastructure and of course the natural charms of its beaches.
