Today marks the world premiere of the miniseries filmed in Ecuador called FRONTERA NORTE, which is the result of an investigation that took place over 9 months in 2011 on the northern border of Ecuador (border with Colombia), and which focuses on the issue of trafficking of women for sexual exploitation.
The premiere of the first chapter will be today, Sunday, March 11, starting at 9 p.m. (Ecuador time) on EcuadorTV and represents an effort to disseminate the problems of the entire border. The 6-chapter miniseries will deal with a topic in each one as follows:
I. Trafficking and smuggling of women - a topic that covers all 6 chapters because it is transversal to the entire border -,
II. Violence against women,
III. Extractivism and the environment,
IV. Lifestyle of young people in conflict zones,
V. Access to justice,
VI. Interculturality.
This television miniseries, co-financed by the Ecuadorian state, is one of the final products of the investigation and will be complemented with a general report that will be published soon, according to Pável Uranga (research collaborator and scriptwriter of the miniseries). A few days ago, a debate on the subject was held at FLACSO, in the city of Quito.
The miniseries was directed by the German-Ecuadorian filmmaker Iris Disse, with a cast that includes 4 acting professionals, and where all the other participants are social actors who talk about their problems; for example, "in the first chapter, the character of the police commissioner is played by the most decent and brave Police Commissioner I have ever met, Mr. José Fajardo, who has rescued girls and women from trafficking, and so on with other characters)" according to Pável Uranga. The investigation
It was led by Ecuadorian Sofía Zaragocín.
