The National Government offers alternatives for the industrial fishing sector, which will stop trawling as of December 15.
Guillermo Morán Velásquez, Vice Minister of Aquaculture and Fisheries, said that the National Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries (MAGAP) and the Vice Ministry of Aquaculture and Fisheries, designed a Contingency Plan for crew members and shipowners who are dedicated to trawl fishing.
Among the alternatives are: Access to Credit lines with the National Development Bank of up to 20 thousand dollars for crew members who decide to acquire their own boat and dedicate themselves to artisanal fishing or for those who decide to retire to other productive activities at an interest rate of 5% with a grace period of three years and a term of 10 years
With the National Financial Corporation, credits from 50 thousand dollars for shipowners who decide to modify their boats to go to other fisheries at an interest rate of 7% with a grace period of two years to a term of 10 years and for For shipowners who do not wish to continue fishing, a system is created compensation program for the quota granted through an appraisal of the ship carried out through MAGAP.
Crew members and shipowners can access the credits by sending a request to the Vice Minister of Aquaculture and Fisheries indicating the alternative they wish to use, as well as the name of the vessel, Ministerial Agreement number, registration number and current fishing permit.
