Since time immemorial, indigenous peoples have sung to their land, the faces and sorrows of love, their heroes, the beauty of their women and the bravery of their people. All of this, wrapped in the longing and poetry that comes from the heart of the people to the rhythm of the magical instrumentation of their voices, their pingullos, their rondadores and their guitars.
But the people have always sung of their struggles, of the joy of their triumphs and of the sadness of their disappointments. However, the predominant sentiment is joy and strength in the search for a better world. The Sun, after the dark night, gives way to the wonderful rebirth of hope at every new dawn. The impulse to resume the path is revived, to the rhythm of its song, in the heart of the forest, of the moors and mountains, of the slopes, the tropics and the jungles.
And it does not matter if the clarity of its noblest causes is intended to be distorted from the centres of power, painting them as fearsome "terrorists" those who, putting their lives and physical integrity at risk, suffer unspeakable sacrifices to protect the world that nature left to humanity. Even though part of it has shown itself to be ungrateful to the land that saw it born and nourishes it.
Yaku Canto is a collection of more than a dozen singer-songwriters and groups who raise their voices to accompany the daily challenge that people have imposed on themselves in the defense of their most precious treasures: the land, the water, and the basic right to exist with fraternity, harmony and dignity.
The voices sound, the chests beat… The people continue to fight!
