This compendium of recommendations aims to encourage a more conscious and responsible attitude among travelers when planning their vacations. It was recently announced that ana initiative that brings together nearly 700 travel agencies in Spain will distribute 30,000 copies of the 'Decalogue of the Responsible Traveler' among their clients.

Decalogue of the Responsible Traveler.

.- Before visiting a destination, find out about the place you are going to. Once there, respect local customs, wear appropriate clothing and avoid confrontational attitudes.
.- In natural spaces, do not leave any traces other than your footsteps, and do not take anything other than photographs.
.- As long as it does not pose a risk to your health, consume local products. This will help the local economy and, therefore, the families that rely on it.
.- When choosing accommodation, consider those that take measures to protect the environment (energy saving, appropriate architecture) and that take into account the well-being of the local population (decent working conditions, supply with regional products).
.- Stand firm against illegal prostitution. If you witness any case of child sexual exploitation, report it to the authorities.
.- Choose activities that have little impact on the environment (hiking, cycling, cultural visits). Opt for low-polluting means of transport.
.- Do not raise your voice more than necessary in public places. If you have the chance, do not forget to have a friendly conversation with the locals.
.- Never give gifts or alms out of compassion, as you will be encouraging begging (and truancy in the case of children). If you wish to help, make a donation to an NGO that looks after the interests of the local population.
.- Always ask permission before photographing people. If language is a barrier, a smile may be enough to understand each other.
.- Remember that the trip is above all a learning experience. Make the most of it!
