On the Spondylus route (route of the Sun), it is possible to frequently find sea turtles stranded on beaches or adrift very close to the coast. Most beach visitors do not know how to act in the event of such encounters, so that help is possible and effective. The following are some of the possible scenarios of encounters with these marine animals.

IF SHE IS ALIVE

Make sure that nothing obstructs the animal's breathing. Keep it in a quiet, cool, and shaded place. If possible, transport it in a plastic box and cover it with a towel soaked in water.

Contact the Valdivia Aquarium and a technician from the recovery center will come to pick it up.

IF SHE IS DEAD

Try to remove it to a place where the sea cannot take it away. Dead specimens are a valuable source of information.

IF YOU HAVE TO TRANSPORT IT

Sea turtles are harmless, but you should be very careful when handling them to avoid being bitten. It is best to hold them firmly by the front and back of the shell.

IF YOU HAVE SWALLOWED A HOOK

Cut the line, leaving a piece of at least 30 cm outside the mouth. Never pull on it. You should never let go of the fish with the hook, as it will die in a short time.

IF IT IS TANGLED WITH GEAR

Cut the cords that are oppressing him. In this way we relieve the pain and compression, reactivate blood circulation and thus prevent possible gangrene.

IF SHE SEEMS TO BE DROWNED

Place the shark on a board, head down, until it revives. This can sometimes take up to two hours. If it does not react, do not release it into the sea.

IF IT IS STAINED WITH OIL

Promptly wipe any oil or tar from your eyes, nose and mouth with a cloth moistened with vegetable oil.
