The 1st International Environmental Tax Forum, attended by 38 delegations from America and Europe, was held in recent days at the International Environmental Summit. It was perhaps the first of its kind worldwide and represents, in the opinion of several businessmen and the organizers themselves, perhaps the greatest success of CIMA's progress.

Gustavo Manrique, President of the Summit, said: "The holding of this Environmental Tax Forum alone has justified all the effort and attention we have devoted to it."

Fiscal policies, tax incentives and green taxes were discussed. According to the economist Carlos Marx, director of the SRI, bad environmental practices should be punished.

For 4 days, at the Guayaquil Convention Center, there was constant emphasis on the need to promote Green Businesses and to achieve this, it is essential that these businesses enjoy tax incentives for the application of good environmental practices in companies and consumers. Greenwashing should not be a fad or just an external image for companies. This was precisely one of the criticisms of some visitors to the Summit, regarding the presence of oil, mining and other companies whose activity has proven to be very polluting.

The Environmental Tax Forum, within this context, perhaps became the starting point for our countries to apply the concept that "the one who pollutes the most pays the most" so that our current consumption model is more responsible towards human beings and the environment.
