Ecosol Foundation Press Release.

Through this statement we inform our fellow citizens that in our city the construction of the project of the trunk 2 of the metrovía is being carried out, where one of the activities of this project is to remove the trees that are on Avenida de las Americas at the height of Bahía Norte, to build the exclusive lanes for it, activity that we have observed and analyzed as follows:

The trees have been pruned from 12 meters to 5 meters in height, leaving no life in some of them and currently becoming a tree cemetery.

According to press releases, the Guayaquil Municipality's decision is to take these trees to the Las Iguanas landfill, leaving this sector of the city, which is highly contaminated by vehicular traffic, without environmental protection.

For this reason, we are expressing through our signatures our disagreement with these actions, as we are aware of the environmental service that these majestic beings provide us by purifying the air we breathe, retaining water and regulating the warm climate of our city, and we request that the trees that survived the pruning be transplanted into a single flowerbed on Av. de las Americas, facing Bahía Norte. We also request that a municipal ordinance be created to promote and regulate the planting of native forest species in future works and current green areas.

It is worth mentioning that a similar event occurred when the trees on Av. del Bombero were removed to make way for its expansion and, in these unfortunate circumstances, the trees died before being moved.
