What is a Cyber Activist?


A cyber activist is a person who uses information and communication tools such as mobile phones, blogs, email or social networks to act in favour of human rights, nature and other issues. They can also organise, mobilise and inspire online communities of people to take action in favour of these same causes.

What can I do?

If you have 10 minutes a week…
  • Sign and share a petition. FOR EXAMPLE THIS ONE.
  • If you have a blog, add a banner or widget. If you use social networks, look for photos or articles related to these topics. A good idea is to share this article.
If you have 30 minutes a week…
  • Use your email for activism. We'll give you specific suggestions on this later.
  • Write a letter.
  • Use (share, comment) the spaces of already organized groups (eg. Ecuadorian resistance) on social networks.
  • Take photos and upload them.
If you have one hour a week…
  • Create your own blog.
  • Research and post on social media
  • Record videos and upload them.

If you have two hours or more a week for three months…

  • Become a volunteer. 
  • Organize a local event. 
  • Personally explain and convince people to commit to the causes you pursue. 
  • Translate topics of interest into your language. 
  • Moderates online communities. 
  • Welcome and help new activists become familiar with the online community.
