In San Pablo de Amalí, the pressure for Hidrotambo continues

Following the arrest in recent weeks of two members of the San Pablo de Amalí Community for resisting and preventing the destruction of their crops due to the construction of a hydroelectric project by the private company Hidrotambo SA, a commission of affected people from the area was received at the Presidency of the Republic.
Last Monday, July 9, at least a hundred residents and those affected by the sector met at the Plaza de la Independencia, in the city of Quito. They came from the Province of Bolívar to denounce the harassment and repression that they say they have been suffering in recent months. Their complaints were presented to Mario de la Torre, who was the official of the Presidency of the Republic who attended to them; they also left their complaints at the Ministry of the Interior. They indicate that this is the third complaint they have presented to the Presidency; De La Torre announced that a special commission will be sent to investigate the reported events.
On the other hand, in the letter PR-SSDES-2012-025863-O, sent by the Presidency of the Republic on May 24, a report on the situation of San Pablo de Amalí is requested from Esteban Albornoz (Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy). However, the private company Hidrotambo SA, entered the lands of Fermín Galeas without his authorization, and without having completed the expropriation trial, consequently, there is no ruling on the process yet; with the purpose of facilitating the entry of heavy machinery and thus continue with the construction.
At the moment, according to the version of the residents Manuel Trujillo and Manuela Pacheco, at the moment it is full of police; they indicate that on Thursday, July 5, a contingent of at least one hundred police officers, accompanied by dogs, showed up in the area. The gendarmes arrived accompanied by an individual who identified himself as Rodrigo Endara, who said he was an advisor to the President, as well as a bodyguard for the Secretary of Administration Vinicio Alvarado, and an official of the Ministry of the Interior. Those affected indicate that said person entered the classrooms of the Cabo Minacho school in the Community of San Pablo de Amalí, with a police dog, intimidating the children; then he went to the San José del Tambo school, where he proceeded to take the cell phones of the young Quinatoa and Flores, asking if they had any relationship with the San Pablo de Amalí community and tried to detain them, arguing that they are residents of this community.
On Wednesday 11th, a complaint was received from the residents of the area about a new confrontation with the national police. They indicate that there has been a new incursion with trained dogs on the private property of Mrs. Elisa Guapulema. They indicate that at least 20 police officers accompanied by dogs, and 20 workers from the company entered the land without the owner's authorization, without presenting any document justifying their presence, causing damage to the family crops and intimidating her. They report the presence of people who pretend to be officials of the Presidency of the Republic, in this case Mr. Jorge Eduardo Tahuama Castelo, and that when he was asked for official documentation, he preferred to hide and not hand it over.
