How do the rights of nature, the precautionary and prevention principles, and the polluter pays, apply?


The Ecuadorian Center for Environmental Law opens a new edition of the Intensive Course in Environmental Law in the city of Guayaquil, which will take place on the days July 14, 15, 21 and 22, 2011. aimed at professionals and students interested in learning more about environmental law and applicable national and international legislation.

The course aims to analyze the constitutional and legal reforms relevant to the environmental management and conservation of biological diversity in Ecuador, deepen knowledge about current legislation on environmental protection and natural resources, including related regulations such as the Organic Code of Territorial Planning, COOTAD, and the Organic Law on Citizen Participation; to analyze the institutions through which environmental policy is developed in the country; and to analyze the legal framework applicable to national and regional environmental management.

The instructors are Ricardo Crespo and René Bedón, experts in environmental legislation with more than ten years of experience in the dissemination, promotion and training for the extension and application of environmental law.

Ricardo Crespo is aLawyer and Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador. Master in Environmental Management, University of Oxford, England. Founding member of CEDA. Professor of Environmental Law at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito. Instructor in various training courses on environmental legal issues for public and private institutions. Associate Consultant on environmental legal issues, specialized in the development of environmental regulations, decentralization of environmental management, biosecurity.

René Bedón is aLawyer and Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador. Master's degree in Environmental Law from the International University of Andalusia, Spain. Master's degree and specialist in business law from UTPL (Quito) and Higher Diploma in Economic Law from UASB. Professor of Environmental Law, Civil Law and Civil Procedural Law at PUCE, UDLA and the University of Hemispheres. Coordinator in Ecuador of the World League of Environmental Lawyers, he practices his profession and works as a consultant and instructor specialized in environmental quality and environmental litigation.
