Both the raid and the operation were not coordinated with the Waorani Nationality of Ecuador (NAWE), according to its vice president Alicia Cahuiya at a press conference.
Cahuiya also reported that this is the oldest of the girls (approximately 6 years old), as the youngest (approximately two years old) is believed to be in the Dikaro community, also in Yasuní, where Moi Enomenga (President of NAWE) immediately went.
In a statement, the Ministry of the Interior said that the Ecuadorian State assumes custody of the Taromenani girl.
The document details that "one of the Taromenane girls who was abducted from her cultural environment in April 2013 was placed in the custody of the Ecuadorian State, after several of her relatives were presumably killed by a group of Waorani."
During the operation, a member of the GIR picked up the minor, while the helicopter waited on the ground. The minor was then subjected to a thorough evaluation at the Public Hospital of Orellana (Coca).
Cahuiya said that this event has caused a lot of fear and anger among the Waorani because no permission has been requested for the incursion and he anticipated: “they are going to cause more war between the Waorani and Taromenani.”
